I really like the Galaxy Tab as an ereader. Primarily because it's about the perfect size for it (as a compromise for portability), and has a way, way better screen than the Kindle 3.
But also it's a good machine. Nothing beats the iPad yet, but, well, I have to admit, it's a pretty good machine.
Here's a typical little oddity of computers though: this evening I wanted to turn the Rotation Lock off, so I could read a broad text sideways. But I couldn't remember where I had set the lock, and I couldn't find it *anywhere* in Settings!
I tried the Search function, but very "intelligently", this only searched the web, not the machine itself!
And of course there's no user guide or help system on it. Well, none came with it, I have since found on online, a smallish PDF with the basics. Why haven't they at least loaded this PDF on the durn machine, with a shortcut to it somewhere?
I finally had to google around until I found a review which happened to mention where that damn setting was. It was in the "shortcuts panel" which one can drag down from the status bar which sits at the top of most screens, full of oblique symbols. Well, the problem is that this is the *only* place it sits. It's quick when you know where it is, but...
This is what's making David Pogue rich, and the rest of us frustrated: the lack of explanation for the very complicated gadgets which are supposed to make our lives easier.
It's worth it, though. I'm reading Terry Pratchett's I Shall Wear Midnight on the Galaxy Tab, and it's a pleasure.

That's cool, Eo! Glad you finally found something that you're happy w/for an e-reader.
OMG, I was just trying to find out where to go look at one (where did you get yours from; the cell phone store?) and...I just fell in LOVE w/this thing! lol! LOVE the media hub and the Live Chat! COOOOOOL!! I LOVE my phone but to, eventually, have something like this is what I think I would like as well! I'm looking for something that is compact like this which can contain EVERYTHING that I need on the go: ONE device (well...I'd settle for 2 if I have to have a separate phone, still, but this schlepping a laptop around, anymore, is a fricken DRAG!); and...this seems to be *IT*! :-D It's nice to have the bigger screen [than the cell screen] and...I haven't been too thrilled w/any of the other readers that I've been looking at. I also found out what ALL the FUSS re: Flash is all about: Google teamed up w/Adobe for this tablet; hence *why* Jobs is probably pissed: he probably thought that he had the ENTIRE market w/the iPad but...I don't think so, anymore! This is a SERIOUS contender and I am looking forward to hearing MORE about it's good and "bad" points from you! :-)
Don't get me wrong. The Kindle 3 is a fantastic ereader, except for the low contrast.
And the iPad is also fantastic, and I still use it more than the GT. Only downsize really is the weight, which in some situations and places gives the GT the edge. (But then of course you're compromising on screen size.)
OK. Good to know 'cuz I haven't finished looking and comparing the Velocity w/the Kindle, etc. yet. Just trying to figure out if I have to go to a Sprint store to look @ the Galaxy? Perhaps Best Buy will have it. They surprised me by having BOTH Velocities there. Had not expected that! Would prefer to see the device powered up, as well! Perhaps I'll go back to Borders, today, and see if they have the tablet, now.

A friend wonders if he should buy an iPad or a galaxy. Is there any comic book reading app, and comic book titles available?
